A Little Mermaid Gets a Sparkling Makeover

A Little Mermaid Gets a Sparkling Makeover

November 17, 2025

At The Grill, we love when art and community come together in unexpected ways. One of our most beloved pieces is our wooden mermaid sculpture — a signature fixture that has been with us for more than a decade, delighting countless guests with her whimsical, oceanside charm.

A Decade on the Wall

She first hung in our previous restaurant and has watched over the dining room ever since — a quiet observer of birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, and countless first visits to the South Shore.

A Handmade Surprise

In 2024, two young visitors, Ella and Mabel, noticed something important: our mermaid was missing a top. Their keen eyes and creative spirit didn't let it slide. A year later, the thoughtful pair returned with a surprise — a handmade pearl bra they had crafted just for her.

We couldn't resist trying it on and capturing the moment. While she may not be able to wear this beautiful accessory forever, the gesture was a heartwarming reminder of the joy and imagination our guests bring to our space.

More Than a Meal

It's moments like these — small, generous, unscripted — that make The Grill more than just a place to eat. It's a place where memories are made, creativity is celebrated, and art lives on through the eyes of those who see it.

Thank you, Ella and Mabel, for bringing a little extra sparkle to our mermaid. You've reminded us that magic can show up when we least expect it.
